Seklar Swamikal authored, the Periyapuranam, also called Thiruthondar Puranam. He was the chief minister of Pandian King. Seklar was requested to prepare a book on Saiva Thiruthondar or Nayanmar. He researched at that time and found 63 Nayanmar. He recorded the stories/history of the 63 Nayanmar highlighting the specialities of each of them. Thevarams were sung by Thirugnanasambanthar Nayanar, Thirunavukkarasa Nayanarr, Suntharamoorthy Nayanar available as Thirumuraikal 1 to 7. Manikkavasaga Swamikal sung Thiruvasakam available as Thirumurai 8 was written by Sivan while narrated by Maickavasagar Swamikal. On 4th day Festival Nayanmar are remembered by the devotees by singing Thevarams & Thiruvasagams
