One day Narada Munivar came to Kailasa with a mango. Lord Siva welcomed him and asked for his reason for the visit. Narathar said that he has brought a mango which give very long life to anybody eats it. God Siva got the mango from Narathar and gave it to Ambal, saying ‘you have it’. Ambal said, ‘shall we give to our children Pillaiyar and Murugan?’ Narathar said, ‘Oh Devi! the mango should not be divided. Only one person has it eat it in full’. Lord Siva said, ‘Oh Naratha, as usual you have started a dispute’. Narathar said ‘Siva Siva’ I have no such intention. We can have a competition between Pillaiyar and Murugan. Sivan said ‘What competion?. You say that also’. Narathar said ‘Whoever comes round this world first will get the fruit’. Murugan said, ‘OK I am ready’ He got on to his vehicle, Peacock and flew away. After Murugan has left, Pillaiyar went to his parents and asked, “Appa, Amma for a child are not the parents, the world?” Lord Siva said “Yes, for a child parents are the world.” Pillaiyar ‘Said OK’ and came round Siva & Ambal and received the mango from Ambal. At this time Murugan came back flying on his vehicle. He became angry, shouted at his parents removed his jewels and
dress and went to Palani Mountain and stood with his underwear. At the Temple, on this day above Purana story is acted by devotees and Priest to instill in the minds of children and devotees about the importance of Parents.
