Hindus traditionally believe that the celestial bodies—Sun, Moon, Sevvai (Mars), Bhudan (Mercury), Viyalan (Jupiter), Sukkiran (Venus), Sani (Saturn), along with Rahu and Kethu—have a significant impact on human life, and they are worshipped in all Saivite temples. Special pujas for Sani are particularly popular during the month of Purattasi (September-October), and similar reverence is shown to Sevvai in the month of Aadi. The temple conducts specific Santhi Homa and other special pujas to alleviate the challenges in life caused by the influences of the Navagraha.
